Do you love children? Do you want to help influence the next generation of rescuers and animal advocates? We need volunteers to help with Critter Camp!

See positions needed each day below. Feel free to email Chivon at cmorse@gbhs.org with which one you are interested with and what times you can come (you do not need to stay the entirety of the day - the times listed are only the times of Critter Camp). Qualifications Vary - see descriptions

Reading Buddies Station
Someone to monitor a small group of children as they choose a book and read to an animal - either in the lobby kennels or community cat rooms. This person will need to be patient and willing to help children. This person will also need to be comfortable being responsible for keeping up with several children in different public areas of the shelter. (Inside)
Training: Open (Auxiliary, Education, General)
 
Canine Station
Someone to spend time with a small group of campers and a canine to allow interaction between them. This person will need to be comfortable discussing animal related topics with children and answering their questions. If the volunteer is passionate about a specific topic (i.e. training, health, enrichment, etc.) they are welcome to use this as an opportunity to teach young minds! (Inside/Outside - weather permitting) This person can also incorporate enrichment plans that are assigned to specific animals during this time (i.e. a dog needs to work on not jumping, leash training...)
Training: Canine (Green, Yellow, or Red)
 
Feline Station
Someone to spend time with a small group of campers and a feline to allow interaction between them. This person will need to be comfortable discussing animal related topics with children and answering their questions. If the volunteer is passionate about a specific topic (i.e. training, health, enrichment, etc.) they are welcome to use this as an opportunity to teach young minds! (Inside/Outside - weather permitting) 
Training: Feline
 
Craft Station
Someone to spend time with a small group of children to complete a pre-planned and prepped craft activity. This person will need to be patient and willing to help children complete the craft. This person will also need to be comfortable discussing animal related topics with children and answering their questions. If the volunteer is passionate about a specific topic (i.e. training, health, enrichment, etc.) they are welcome to use this as an opportunity to teach young minds! (Inside/Outside - weather permitting) This will likely be more popular with the 6-8 age group.
Training: Open (Auxiliary, Education, General)
 
Enrichment Station
Someone to spend time with a small group of children to complete a pre-planned and prepped enrichment activity. This person will need to be patient and willing to help children complete the activity. This person will also need to be comfortable discussing animal related topics with children and answering their questions. If the volunteer is passionate about a specific topic (i.e. training, health, enrichment, etc.) they are welcome to use this as an opportunity to teach young minds! (Inside/Outside - weather permitting) This person, if canine/feline trained, can also take the group to do/give the enrichment to the animals. 
Training: Open (Auxiliary, Education, General), though Animal Training is preferred. 
 
Service Project Station
Someone to spend time with a small group of children to complete a pre-planned and prepped service project. This person will need to be patient and willing to help children complete the activity. This person will also need to be comfortable discussing animal related topics with children and answering their questions. If the volunteer is passionate about a specific topic (i.e. training, health, enrichment, etc.) they are welcome to use this as an opportunity to teach young minds! (Inside/Outside - weather permitting) 
Training: Open (Auxiliary, Education, General) 
 
Bathing Station
Someone to monitor and assist a small group while giving green dogs a bath. This person will need to be comfortable discussing animal related topics with children and answering their questions, quick-acting if a dog is unhappy in the bath, and able to lift heavier dogs into the tub for the campers. 
Campers: this option will only be available for the 9-11 age group 
Training: Canine - Red Preferred 
 
Conversation Station
Someone to spend time with a small group of children to discuss animal-related topics. This person will need to be patient and knowledgeable about certain topics (transport, spay/neuter, positive reinforcement training, basic veterinary care, GBHS programs and functions, fundraising, etc. This person will also need to be comfortable discussing animal related topics with children and answering their questions. If the volunteer is passionate about a specific topic (i.e. training, health, enrichment, etc.) they are welcome to use this as an opportunity to teach young minds! (Inside/Outside - weather permitting)
